Dr. Gerry Hoffman working in the college's labA graduate of Baltimore City public schools, Gerry’s early fascination with science led him to study chemistry at Towson University, where he received the American Chemical Society Outstanding Student Award. He continued his education at Cornell University, earning both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry as a Peter Debye Fellow.
Gerry went on to devote nearly three decades to teaching chemistry at the university level, including 20 years at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. His work included research involving water chemistry and the properties of water, and he published 13 research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Throughout his academic career, Gerry’s responsibilities extended beyond the classroom and laboratory. He chaired committees, managed institutional budgets, collaborated with colleagues, mentored students, and learned to bring people together to address complex challenges. Those experiences gave him a practical understanding of responsible budgeting, careful analysis, and collaborative decision-making.
After retiring in 2021, Gerry and his spouse, a San Diego County native, chose to make Fallbrook their home. They quickly fell in love

For Gerry, serving on the Fallbrook Public Utility District Board is an opportunity to apply decades of experience to the essential services local families depend on every day. His priorities include maintaining a clean and reliable water supply, controlling costs and limiting rate increases, responsibly addressing aging infrastructure, and ensuring the District remains transparent and accountable to its ratepayers.
Grounded in nearly three decades of experience as a scientist and educator, Dr. Gerry Hoffman is running to bring careful analysis, responsible stewardship, and practical problem-solving to the Fallbrook Public Utility District Board of Directors.
